Bruce Named Big South Player of the Week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian College men’s tennis player Danny Bruce has been named Big South Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday morning. It is the first weekly honor for the men’s team this season.
Bruce was a flawless 6-0 overall on the courts last week, going 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles, as PC went 3-0 as a team, including wins over conference foes Radford and Liberty. It is the second career Player of the Week honor for Bruce, after he also claimed the weekly award on January 21 last season.
The native of Marietta, Ga. opened the week with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles and a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles with Ben Kelley in PC’s 5-2 victory over Radford. He followed with a 6-2, 6-1 singles win at No. 3 and another 6-0 doubles win at No. 2 with Kelley to push PC past Liberty 4-3. He wrapped up play with a 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles against Limestone, while teaming up with Kelley for a 6-4 at No. 1.
Bruce sits at 11 singles wins on the year, second-most on the team, while Bruce and Kelley are 5-3 on the year as a pairing with three straight wins. As a team, the Blue Hose stand at 5-1 in conference play, which puts them second in the league standings.
The Blue Hose return to action Friday, 1 p.m., against Longwood.
