Red Devil offense runs out of steam
Clinton High's best baseball season in many years comes to an abrupt halt as the Red Devil offense scores no runs in two games. The Red Devils lose 2 games by a total of 3 runs to get knocked out in the AAA Upper State Championship double-elimination round.
Pitching holds up well for the 23-3 Red Devils. Tristan Smaltz (8-1) loses Wednesday night's game at Seneca, 1-0. Seneca scores the game's only run on a bases loaded fielder's choice in the 4th inning. Clinton's Braeden Webb is thrown out at home - Webb doubled, Davis Cunningham singled - in the 7th inning to eliminate Clinton's best chance to score a run.
On Tuesday, Jeremy Simmons takes the 2-0 loss to Belton-Honea Path. BHP's Austin Todd stymies the Red Devils on 3 hits, 1 walk, 9 Ks as the Bears improve to 24-3. Wren also is still alive in the AAA Upper State Playoffs.
Clinton won its first District Championship since 1994 this spring, and the Red Devils were undefeated Region Champions.
