Pre-season Top Tennis Team

Men’s Tennis Opens 2018 Season Saturday Against Clemson: The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team will open its 2018 season on Saturday morning, taking on Clemson in Greenville on the campus of Furman University at 9:30 a.m. The two were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader, but are now scheduled to just play a single match. PC - the defending Big South Champions - will return six of the nine members of last season’s NCAA Tournament team, led by third-year head coach Patrick Fediuk. The 2018 version of the squad will be led by seniors Alejandro Bejar, Brandon Mills and Alexander Lykou. Sophomore Jaime Castillo-Lopez returns after seeing significant action a year ago, along with redshirt junior Will Baird and redshirt sophomore Elias Svensson. Bejar went 16-6 a year ago, including 6-0 in Big South play, and enters 2018 with an 11-match winning streak, while Castillo-Lopez went 12-5, including a 5-0 mark in Big South play, and went 8-1 to end the year. Lykou spent all of last season in the No. 1 spot in the lineup for PC, while Mills returns to the top of the lineup as well. The Blue Hose welcome three newcomers to the fold in 2018. Freshmen Daniel Stenger, Luis Conde and Britton Bellamy will look to contribute to the experienced squad this season. PC will look to pick up where it left off in 2017, after going 18-11 overall and 6-1 in Big South action. The Blue Hose were tabbed as the preseason favorite to win the Big South, a first for the program, after capturing both the league’s regular season and tournament titles last season. Saturday’s match against the Tigers kicks off a five-match road trip to start the season for PC. The Blue Hose will travel to Greenville, N.C. next weekend to take on NC Central and East Carolina.

PC Men’s Tennis Tabbed Big South Preseason Favorite W-SEASON OPENER

The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team was picked as the Big South’s preseason favorite by the league’s coaches, as announced by the conference last Wednesday.

It is the first time that PC has been picked as a preseason favorite in any sport since its move to Division I.

The defending Big South Champions, led by third-year head coach Patrick Fediuk, totaled 49 points with three first-place votes to end up atop the preseason voting. The three first-place votes are tied for the most received by PC in the preseason poll. The Blue Hose also took three first-place votes in 2015 but ranked second behind former Big South member Coastal Carolina.

PC finished one point ahead of Campbell in second place with 48 points and one first-place vote. Winthrop was selected third with 46 points and two first-place votes. Gardner-Webb was fourth with 41 points and one first-place vote to round out the top half. Longwood was fifth with 40 points and Liberty came in sixth with 30 points and one first-place vote. UNC Asheville totaled 19 points and Radford earned 15 points to come in seventh and eighth, respectively.

The Blue Hose claimed both the Big South regular season and tournament titles last season en route to its first NCAA Tournament appearance. PC is a combined 17-4 against Big South opponents over the last two seasons, including a 5-1 record in the Big South Tournament.

PC opens the 2018 season on Saturday against Clemson in Greenville, at Furman University.
