Co-Hurler of the Week
Chock Earns Big South Co-Pitcher of the Week
CHARLOTTE, NC – Presbyterian College sophomore right-handed pitcher Tanner Chock has been named Big South Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. Chock earned the honor with Gardner-Webb hurler Brad Haymes for games played March 21-26.
Chock recorded his first career shutout on Friday night against Gardner-Webb in the first complete of his career. He allowed just two hits to the Runnin’ Bulldogs, while tallying seven strikeouts and zero walks on just 87 pitches. The sophomore right-hander from Loris earned his first win of the season, as PC topped GWU, 3-0, in game two of the series.
Chock is the first PC pitcher to record a shutout since Aaron Lesiak shutout Winthrop on April 11, 2014. He tied his career high with the seven strikeouts, a mark he reached earlier this season against Towson. Chock recorded his first quality start of the season to lead PC to its first conference win of the year.
Haymes tossed a complete game against the Blue Hose in game one of the series Thursday, allowing five hits and totaling 12 strikeouts against one walk. It was his third complete game of the season, as he pushed his record to 5-0.
The honor is the first of the season for a PC pitcher. Tyler Weyenberg was named Big South Player of the Week on March 14.
