Letter: Thank You, everyone who assisted with election
The 2018 General Election Day has been certified in Laurens County. The voters were patient and thoughtful, and the entire elections team was the best ever!
To this end, I would like to publicly recognize the Voters of Laurens County and the Registration & Elections community as a whole. Turnout was high and the Board of Registration & Elections deployed all equipment and utilized all resources available to us.
The Laurens County Board of Registration & Elections as well as the employees and volunteers at the County Elections Office are to be commended. They are a very hard-working group of individuals.
It is in this spirit I would like to thank those who gave their time and energy to work a very long election day (and night).
Our Poll Managers came through like champs. They remained positive and upbeat. At a stipend of approximately $4 per hour, it is apparent that these folks are not “in it for the money”. They are knowledgeable of election law and process and dedicated to the idea that Every Vote Matters, Every Vote Counts.
The Polling Location Technicians kept those old, old, old voting machines functioning. Every vote was counted. Thank you, “Rovers”.
The City of Laurens / Police Department graciously allowed us to use its high-tech training facility for over three weeks, and 34 generous entities lent us use of their buildings as polling places. We could not be more appreciative.
The Laurens County Finance and Human Resource departments will perform the super-human feat of preparing nearly 200 paychecks for poll managers, clerks and technicians. Special thanks to the County Treasurer for the amazing letter opener.
Laurens County Maintenance and the County Detention Center provided the support we needed to prepare nearly 200 voting machines.
The candidates themselves were professional and courteous.
And finally, the Voters were great! Many citizens offered to distribute sample ballots in
their community. We had several people show up to volunteer in our office each day during the weeks prior to the elections. I was overwhelmed by the generosity of these people. Because of them, the absentee process progressed smoothly with little wait time.
It is with appreciation and gratitude that I acknowledge those who helped make Election Day a good experience for our County Voters. Thank You!
