LETTER: Thank You, Bob and Wife

This display of generosity was overwhelming. Just when you think the Christmas Spirit is gone, someone reminds you that it is still alive with such a kind gesture. When the gentleman was asked his name, he said, “Just Bob.”

The Editor:

A Heart-warming Thank You - Our self-contained special education classes at Joanna Woodson Elementary School went on their annual Christmas field trip Tuesday, Dec. 19th. We visited NHC and delivered Christmas angels to the residents. It was a wonderful experience in sharing kindness!  Student comments such as; “Did everyone get one?” “We need to come every week.” and “Merry Christmas!” warmed the hearts of the adults who watched the children interact with the residents.

Then we went to Dollar Tree to shop for our student’s family members. We helped the students decide - change their mind - and decide again on presents for Mama, Daddy, brother, sister, Grandma, Papa, etc. As our final celebration for the season, we went to Whiteford’s to eat lunch. The students were so well behaved that the adults were amazed and beamed with joy! Several people asked what school we were with and we proudly told them Joanna Elementary. After the student meals were served and the kids were eating, a friendly couple called a teacher to their table and asked how the kids paid for their meals. It was explained that they earned money from a “store” they operate on Fridays and that was what was used to pay for the meal and shopping for their families.  The gentleman said, “Well, this meal is on me.”

This display of generosity was overwhelming. Just when you think the Christmas Spirit is gone, someone reminds you that it is still alive with such a kind gesture. When the gentleman was asked his name, he said, “Just Bob.”

So, we would like to send a big Thank You to Bob and his wife!  Your random act of kindness was the perfect display of the Christmas Spirit.

Merry Christmas!

Polly Martin
