LETTER: Gun control won't purge evil

Thomas Paine, a founding father of America said (please pay attention), “Arms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve morder in the world as well as property….Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them.” Feel free to read Mr. Paine’s statement again in order to fully grasp understanding. Mr. Paine made this statement not about AR-15’s but yes, the two-shot a minute Kentucky Long Rifle. Great insight wouldn’t you agree?

The editor:

Everyone has a right to their opinion or belief. Mine below is of belief:

The thought that labeling the NRA a terrorist organization, deporting leaders or banning assault weapons will deter crime is laughable at minimum.

Why?  Could someone thinking deeper than the liberal left provide the question the above statements resolve?  (Waiting). This is what the liberal left does.  They provide solutions that fit no questions or problems.

I do not support any form of murdering the innocent.  It is just wrong. I am no expert but I believe that “no gun” zones communities across America have to become more “hardened” targets in order to remain gun free.  A morass of shootings occur where the “no guns allowed” exists. Is giving teachers and principals that wish to volunteer and take necessary training so schools can be better prepared the answer?  Is allowing them to possess firearms while at school after proper training the answer? Churches are beginning to address soft target issues by training those in the congregations who have CWP’s. Will any of this completely stop such hideous acts? I can’t say. But I will say that I have not heard of an instance where someone has walked into a gun show and cut loose.  Why?  Unfavorable odds. Why? Guns-a-plenty.

Gun laws, no matter what weapon targeted do one thing.  Restrain honest people from a chance to defend themselves or enjoy recreational shooting. We have things in America already illegal, yet evil people possess those or will. Society is quick to label individuals that commit such crimes as “mental issues”, in some cases this is true, but not in all. If we truly found root cause, we would determine in some cases evil is the culprit.

Not everyone that purchases an AR-15 has intent of carrying out deplorable acts against innocent people. Personally, I own firearms, some of which I have owned over 48 years and never once have I or the firearm had the propensity to harm another individual.  Maybe we should say, “Guns don’t kill people, evil people kill people”.

Labeling the NRA a terrorist organization, deporting the leaders to Yemen and banning assault weapons will not address the issue. We can’t outlaw everything. None of these statements nor any gun control law will ever purge evil out of an individual’s heart. Prayer, there’s a different story if all of our elected officials unified in prayer, that would certainly make me want to say, Whoopee, AMEN and HALLELUEJAH!

Respectfully submitted,
