Fight leads to extra security
Fights led to additional security at the front entrance of Laurens District High School on Feb. 10. Reports were the school was "a ghost town" because parents kept their children home when Snapchat circulated a report of a plot to have students bring guns to school. Social media has posted videos of a lunchroom fight, a bathroom fist fight, and a student chasing another student in the gym before being tackled and disarmed. She is being held in juvenile custody, and a relative says she had been bullying for a year. In a statement Friday, D55 spokesman Ed Murray said:
"Errors in judgement on the part of a small group of students have tainted the reputation of LDHS and Laurens County School District 55. We have 1580+ students who have done the right thing this week and they do not deserve to be painted with the same brush as the few who acted inappropriately."
