Segars put on the spitfire

Segars roasted: Ernie Segars, who is retiring as Laurens County Administrator after 27 years, was roasted last Thursday during a dinner hosted by Laurens County Council. The roast was held at the Lakeside Country Club in Laurens and included remarks from Joe Wood (current county council chairman), former council chairman Don Jackson, former council member Mike Pitts (now a member of the SC House of Representatives) and Rev. Marc Coker, Charlie Gray, Jim Bryan, Joey Avery, Ruth LaForge, Sandra Johnson and Larry Franklin. Council voted last week to hire Jon Caime, administrator in Hart County, Ga., to replace Segars. Segars is shown with Shelia McDaniel, widow of long-time council member Edward McDaniel, and Garrett McDaniel, who was elected to replace his father on council. Eighth Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo is shown in the left background. In the second picture, Segars greets former council member Paul O’Dell. – Photos by Larry Franklin
