A Noise-y county council meeting

Revisions to the county's Noise Ordinance up for a final vote on Tuesday

TONIGHT - UP FOR FINAL VOTE: A revised noise ordinance for Laurens County will come up for final action of the county council.

The new ordinance repeals old ordinances - a public hearing will precede the Council's vote on a new ordinance developed by the County Planning Commission in consultation with Sheriff Don Reynolds. People in the northern end of Laurens County have been using explosives and rifles to blow up stuff, and the concussive noise is causing problems, Reynolds has told the council.

The council meeting - open to the public under the SC Freedom of Information Act (2017 revision) - will be at 5:30 pm in the council chambers, second floor of the historic courthouse in Laurens. A Public Comment time is schedule for any topic (register at the podium before the meeting starts), but people can talk about the proposed noise ordinance when the Chair announces the public hearing, without signing up in advance.

The council will hear a report from Jordan Lloyd (Clemson) about Laurens County Population. Old business is: Ordinance 840 public hearing, third and final reading; Ordinance 841 noise public hearing, third and final reading; summary court/magistrate relocation and remodel; and Hillcrest Square water damage repairs approval.

New business will be: workforce board appointment; Gateway Counseling board appointment; magistrates office pay adjustments, EMS budget re-allocation for cardiac monitors, and Blake Heights subdivision roads acceptance into the county roads inventory.

The council will conducted a closed-to-the-public, executive session to discuss a business and economic matter related to an existing industry. No votes of the council can be taken in closed session.
