First Fatality of 2018
Moped rider killed near Ware Shoals
The first person to die on Laurens County roads in 2018 was riding a moped near Ware Shoals, authorities said.
The victim was identified as 44-year-old Timothy Lee Wood, who was ejected from the moped after a collision about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
A report said the crash occurred near Maddox Bridge Road in the Ware Shoals community. The victim died at the scene, and the driver of the car that collided with the rear of the moped did not have life-threatening injuries.
Three people were killed on SC roads this past weekend (Jan. 26-28) - two of them were on mopeds.
That brings to 49 the number of people killed on SC roads so far in 2018 (as of Jan. 28) - that compares to 73 during the same time in 2017.
Last year, by this same time, 4 people had died on roads in Laurens County.
